The University of the Third Age is a UK-wide organisation in which consists of a variety of social clubs and groups, aimed towards retired and semi-retired people. Through the U3A, they can build new skills – ranging from learning a new language, to digital photography – or for many, it is simply a place where they can indulge in a hobby such as painting or a sport.

In 2017, Amara began attending weekly meet ups with the Table Tennis and Indoor Carpet Bowls groups at the Helston & District branch in Cornwall, getting to know its members and being challenged to competitive games of table tennis with them.

An Antidote to Alzheimer’s is a multimedia-based project, narrated by members of the Helston & District U3A social groups. It explores what the being a part of the U3A means to its members and offers perspectives on the positive impact it has had on their physical health, mental well-being and social life in general.
