“And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, nor shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord you God.”
Each year we collect vast quantities of food, toiletries and other essentials generously donated from local schools and distribute them to the needy in our community. This year is no different. It’s an amazing opportunity to stretch out an open hand to a community suffering with poverty, mental health and homelessness. Our collections benefits many including clients of The Hope Foundation foodbank, The Bromley Homeless Shelter, The Haven Café, Foodcycle, Parents from Pebbles and others.
As you can imagine, this is a team effort which calls for several volunteers to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. How can you get involved?
Van drivers/loaders; needed between the 07/10/19 – 18/10/19 – To drive the church’s vans to the schools to collect their donations. If you can’t drive, then I’m sure the drivers would appreciate a helper for loading and unloading.
Food sorters – To sort the random foods donated into crates, separating them by category and date.
Strong people – To unleash their inner Hulk and move the sorted crates into storage. Trolleys available.
The harvest sort will be happening during the October half-term, 21st – 23rd October.
(Day time and evening slots available)
