Tackling the challenges of mental health conditions, access to care and the challenges of mental illness requires our whole community. The entire health system needs improvement, especially when it comes to serving marginalized communities. Our Panelists will discuss mental illness from a cultural perspective including access, acceptance, family participation and types of treatment.
Dr. Andres Sciolla is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis. He is an attending psychiatrist at the Behavioral Health Center (BHC) of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Sciolla’s interest focuses on the effects of exposure to adverse childhood experiences on physical and mental health. This interest stems from providing comprehensive psychiatric services to ethnic and sexual minorities, including refugees and immigrants, for over 15 years.
