Over a million people miss work daily due to burnout and unmitigated stress. Through facilitator-led conversation, group participation, and hands-on demonstrations, this session explores how mindfulness-based self-care can be an antidote to burnout. In this session, we’ll explore why “feeling stressed” differs from “being burned out.” Together, we’ll unpack the mental, physical, financial, health, personal, and professional impacts caused by burnout. This session also examines how our resistance to self-care is often enmeshed with our desire to rescue others before rescuing ourselves. Participants will learn how adopting easy-to-learn daily rituals for mindful self-care can shift mindsets, enhance moods, and create happy, healthy workplaces. Watch a clip of Michelle Courtney Berry, CEO of Courtney Consulting Enterprises, LLC as she opens one of two (encore) presentations at her first appearance @SXSW in 2019.

Born in Manhattan, but raised in the Catskills, Michelle is a native New Yorker, forward-thinking entrepreneur, intrepid orator, inspirational coach, self-help author, award-winning poet, occasional actor, renowned coffee snob, imperfect vegan, hiking leader, and sly humorist who has covered The White House and Capitol Hill as a TV journalist.

Hailed by audiences worldwide as “life-altering,” “captivating,” “courageous,” and “authentically-transformative,” Michelle is also a Reiki Master Teacher and an internationally-praised meditation leader. Considered an expert on the impact of stress on the psychology of workplace behavior, she has opened for and shared stages with Maya Angelou, Dorothy Cotton, Mos Def, Howard Zinn, and The Dalai Lama.

Michelle began her career in print, radio, and TV broadcasting, later transitioning to communications consulting and teaching. She has taught brand marketing, crisis communications, and PR at leading universities. Michelle went on to work as an aide to politicians and to later run for and win a seat on her City Council where she also served as an Alternate Acting Mayor for the City of Ithaca. She also won a Delegate Seat in her Congressional District, representing President Barack Obama in Denver.

Over the last decade, Michelle has focused on health and wellness consulting, coaching, and wellness-related speaking and training, with a deep devotion to helping clients stem attrition, conflict, stress, and burnout. She has appeared on “Good Morning America,” in Men’s Fitness, O-Magazine, Gannett newspapers, & national TV commercials.
