We all want to live in a cleaner, greener world. This is the Generation and these are the communities making a difference in the South East of Ireland. More than 2,000 local groups have improved their energy efficiency and sustainability with the support of our Community Fund. This is Generation Green.
Equine Connections – Duncormick
The equine therapy was introduced to the Equine Connections centre to enhance people’s lives and equine therapy is provided by the centre for people with mental health issues and people with physical and psychological disabilities. Over the last 2 years Equine Connections have carried out much needed repairs to the arena roof and trained 4 therapeutic horses with the support of SSE Airtricity. These newly trained horses will bring a calming effect to those members of the community that they will work with, as well as providing them an opportunity for social interaction.
Stella Maris Community Centre – Kilmore
The Kilmore Development Association at the Stella Maris Community Centre is an opportunity for the local community to come together and support one another to ensure that no one is the community is left feeling isolated. The Stella Maris Community Centre has installed energy efficient measures with the support of the Community Fund. Additional support has also made their Meals on Wheels initiative possible, allowing local volunteers to deliver evening meals to members of the community.
Thank you to all who took part in this project and allowed us to tell their story. Their tireless work in the community is making positive change every day.
