“Three – Way – Mirror” is a psychological short film that focuses on the concept of the human mind and how the mind can be both an ally and enemy to the human body. The story follows in the foot steps of “Alexander Hutton”, a young man who has suffered a brutal attack. Since the attack Alexander’s entire personality and perception on life has drastically changed, once an outgoing, confident individual, now lives his life behind closed doors, cut from social interaction. Three months living in isolation has altered Alex’s mind set, forming two personas of the mind “Mr Positive” and “Mr Negative”, each with a motivation and agenda to either aid…or break him. Alex stands torn between two psychological identities who are constantly at battle to save / break him, this psychological torment has added fuel to Alex’s already unstable and fragile mind set, dragging him deeper into the rabbit hole.
Every mind within the human body has a positive and negative mind set, each with a specific motivation and personal agenda to the host. The mind is a 24-hour working construct that even as we sleep, continues to fill our minds with thoughts and dreams. Although the mind is a crucial ally to the human body it can also be the host’s greatest enemy, the mind is an unpredictable ally that can either aid us or break us through the power that is thought and imagery, also known as a positive and negative mind set. A negative mind set can be formed through many things such as trauma, stress, depression and mental illness, in today’s society it is commonly formed through the cruel aspect of overthinking and anxiety, filling our minds with thoughts and images that in truth are not real, yet allow us to worry and stress about materialistic things which ultimately can lead to our downfall e.g. depression, suicide. A visual, constructive and experimental vision is required for this project so that the story and characters can flow naturally and most of all be understood from a viewing audience perspective. I wish to challenge the audience on a mental level through verbal and visual elements, to show and represent how the mind both works and creates conflict within us on a personal level, as deep down only we understand stand our true thoughts and feelings, making us feel more alone on an emotional level.
I have always been a firm believer that film is an interpretational art form that allows the viewing audience to experience a film / story in personal and unique way, adding a more emotional and personal depth to the overall film and its meaning / conclusion. “Three – Way – Mirror” will fall under the genre category of drama / thriller, as stated it is a story with dramatic depth and manipulation about the mind and what it is truly capable of. I wish to create a film that will stand out to the viewing audience and also challenge the audience on a psychological level, to show the inner workings of the mind and with hope connect and resonate with the viewing audience on a personal level, as stated film is an interpretational art form that allows us to view and understand film in a personal and meaningful way, to stand out and be unique beyond just a media product. “Three – Way – Mirror is heavily character driven and relies upon execution from all aspects of the film making process both in front and behind the camera, I believe as stated that this project has a high level of potential to be unique and stand out to the viewing audience to be more than just a film, but an outlet to show how the mind works and contorts us into suffering from mental health, because at heart we are the creators of our own suffering.
Please help us reach our goal in creating this project, this subject matter is crucially relevant in today’s society as in conclusion the story focuses on the concept of battling and suffering from mental health. We wish to show how the mind truly works within us all, to show the relevant and sinister side of how the mind can become the enemy and manipulate us into a sinister and horrifying end. We intend to treat this subject matter with great care and respect, as stated it is a subject matter that is fragile in today’s world and society. Please helps us towards making this project, to bring this subject matter / story to life and to the silver screen.
